Behind the refurbishment of the Dunapark Café is the Eventrend Group which has been a key player in Budapest’s hospitality and cultural scene for over thirty years. Founded in 1992, this Hungarian-owned group of companies now operates numerous iconic Budapest venues and historic hospitality establishments; at the heart of its operations lies not only hospitality, but also on urban community spaces and the preservation of Budapest’s coffee-house culture.

In the case of the Dunapark Café, this was not simply a renovation project. The aim was to preserve and reinterpret the role played in Budapest’s cultural life by a historic café that has long been part of Újlipótváros’s identity. A place with a past, but one that can also play a vibrant role in Budapest’s café culture and community life today.

The Eventrend Group It has been operating in the Hungarian hospitality, event management and hotel management sectors since 1992. Over the past decades, the group has been involved in the management of some of Budapest’s best-known and culturally significant venues, whilst developing its own approach to the preservation and contemporary reinterpretation of historic hospitality venues.

Eventrend’s portfolio includes such iconic Budapest venues as Gundel Restaurant, the Centrál Kávéház, the New York Café, Spoon The Boat and the Városliget Café. The common approach at these venues is not to recreate the past as a mere backdrop, but to ensure that these historic spaces once again become a living part of the city’s everyday life and of Budapest’s contemporary café culture.

An important part of the Eventrend Group’s philosophy is that a hospitality venue is not just a service, but also a community space. It is a place where encounters, stories and urban memories are created. This approach is particularly important for a historic café in Budapest such as the Dunapark Kávéház, which is both an architectural heritage site and a vibrant urban meeting place.
